7 Korean Beauty Tips for Radiant Skin

When we think of Korean skincare, we automatically think of flawless, radiant, and youthful looking skin. People naturally gravitate towards this type of skincare given that they are aware of what Koreans look like with their skin. Be it K-dramas or K-pop, all these stars have flawless skin. And of course, what type of person does not want the same thing to happen to their skin? To achieve that Korean complexion, here are five Korean beauty tips for you to follow.

1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Before anything else, it is important to note that hydration is key to having radiant healthy skin. Never omit this tip, as this is truly one of the best ways to achieve that Korean-esque skin. So, how exactly does hydrating oneself improve the skin? Here are several benefits that drinking water provides:
  • Prevents sagging skin
  • Flushes toxins out of the body
  • Maintains a good pH balance on the skin
  • Elasticizes the skin
  • Provides moisture to the skin
  • Prevents acne

2. Do tapping motions instead of rubbing skincare onto the face

While tapping skincare onto the skin is a Japanese technique, it is widely used in Korea as well. This method increases the skin's ability to absorb skin care products and prevents the skin from dragging and pulling. It is also less harmful than rubbing.

The skin absorbs skin products better when it is being tapped due to stimulated blood flow.

3. Exfoliate regularly

One way of achieving that Korean-esque skin is by exfoliating the face regularly. Due to external factors like dirt and pollution, it latches itself onto the skin.

Over time, the skin naturally repairs itself, and in turn, the skin is left with dead skin cells. The buildup of dead skin cells will make the skin dull and dry, so an effective way to get rid of them is to exfoliate regularly.

In Korean skincare, exfoliating the face just once or twice a week is advised. Going over this frequency will cause the skin to break, become dry, irritated, and red.

4. Use double cleansing method

The double cleansing method is part of the ever-famous 12-step Korean skincare routine. The reason why Koreans do this step is to make sure that their skin is cleansed properly in preparation for other skin care products. The more the skin is cleansed, the better its absorption.

This method is composed of two steps: first, the face is cleansed with an oil-based cleanser; and second, a water-based cleanser is used.

An oil-based cleanser is able to remove stubborn makeup as well as products with SPF, while a water-based cleanser removes any leftover debris on the face such as sweat and dirt.

5. Use pimple patches for acne

Popping pimples is never a good idea as this leaves scars on the face. Apart from popping or picking on pimples, one way that causes scarring is too much sun exposure. An easy and simple fix for this is to use pimple patches.

A pimple patch has a lot of benefits to it. Mostly, it stops people from picking at their pimples. Pimple patches also drain the pus out of pimples and heal them at the same time. Some pimple patches also come with SPF to protect the pimples from UV rays and keep them from darkening.

6. Investing in natural skincare is one of the most important Korean beauty tips to follow

While drugstore skincare products may be a lot cheaper compared to pricey Korean skincare, the price point sacrifices their quality.

The majority of drugstore skincare products contain harmful ingredients such as alcohol and parabens. So it is not worth it to hoard such products since they contain a lot of harsh ingredients. It would be best to invest in skincare products that are a bit pricier than most. The good thing about this is that people get to apply products to their skin that are safe.

There are a lot of Korean skincare brands that offer products that are cruelty-free and use natural ingredients. COSRX, Innisfree, Nature Republic, Whamisa, Aromatica, Pestlo, Dr. Different, Purito, Huxley, and Glow Recipe are a few examples of such brands.

7. Create a skincare routine

Finally, developing a skincare routine is necessary to achieve the Korean glass-skin look. As the word itself implies, a routine is something that must be done religiously. The best way skincare products can work their magic on the skin is if they are used continuously.

Having a skincare routine both in the morning and at night has proven to have great results for people, as it maximizes frequency of use. Aside from that, the purpose of the morning and nighttime routines is to protect the skin.

A morning skincare routine shields the skin from harmful elements like UV rays, dirt, and pollution. A nighttime routine, on the other hand, concentrates on treating skin problems before cells regenerate themselves while a person is sleeping.
