PASADENA, CA (October 23, 2023) - Wednesday night, a hit-and-run in Pasadena claimed the lives of Antonio Mendoza Hernandez and Veralice Yanira Membreno Orellana.
The deadly collision happened around 9:17 p.m. at the intersection of South Raymond Avenue and Penn Street.
According to the police, a stolen white Lincoln Navigator going north on Raymond went around a resting vehicle at a stop sign.
As a result, the speeding Lincoln collided with a Nissan Versa traveling east on Penn Street. As a result, the Versa was sent to the northeast curb.
Police said the stolen Lincoln came to a stop after hitting a parked Ford F-150 on the west curb line. The driver and the passenger of the Lincoln then attempted to flee the scene on foot.
Unfortunately, the first responders declared the Nissan driver, 63-year-old Antonio Mendoza Hernandez of Los Angeles, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, his passenger, 33-year-old Veralice Yanira Membreno Orellana of Altadena, was transported to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
On October 19th, officers arrested 30-year-old Jeffrey Butler of Altadena, for several charges including hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
