87-Year-Old Woman Killed in Pedestrian Accident near Newport Drive

DISCOVERY BAY, CA (November 27, 2023) - Beverly Sweeney died Thursday night while Javier Ramirez was arrested after a deadly hit-and-run on Highway 4. The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m., near Newport Drive on November 16th.
Officers say Ramirez was driving and struck Sweeney before fleeing from the scene without rendering aid.
Medical personnel arrived and declared 87-year-old Sweeney, of Discovery Bay deceased.

Following preliminary duties, emergency crews arrested the involved suspect, 32-year-old Javier Dominguez Ramirez, of Antioch on November 22nd. Ramirez was held in Martinez Detention Facility for felony hit-and-run with bail set to $50,000.
At this time, an active investigation to determine further details is still currently underway.
