When Jason Tavares, a young and ambitious multicultural hairstylist, took a leap of faith and moved to New York City in August 1994, little did he know that he was embarking on a transformative journey that would shape his destiny and significantly impact the beauty industry.

Tavares started his beauty education at LIBS beauty school in the heart of Manhattan, which laid the groundwork for his illustrious career. A stint at the famous Salon DNB was his first taste of professional hairdressing and introduced him to the art of coiffing. This experience ignited his passion for the beauty industry and spurred him to pursue a more exclusive and high-end clientele.

"After LIBS and Salon DNB, I realized hair and beauty were my passion, and I craved a more refined clientele," Tavares shares. This quest led him to his first celebrity client, a game-changing moment that ushered in a series of A-list patrons.

After honing his skills in New York, Tavares moved to Philadelphia to continue his education at Empire Beauty School. Upon graduation, he joined the renowned Pierre n Carlo Haute Coiffure Salon as a master stylist in the early 2000s, becoming the salon's only multicultural hairstylist. His diverse expertise and knack for transcending beauty norms caught the eye of the salon's leadership team, earning him high-profile corporate contracts.

"Working with major companies like Warner Brothers and Lion's Gate opened up many opportunities," Tavares says. His clientele expanded to include celebrated figures such as Logan Browning, Terrence Howard, Bernie Mac, Ice Cube, and Ryan Guzman.

Impressed by his prowess, the salon sent Tavares for training at L'Oreal Headquarters in Paris, France, further enriching his wealth of knowledge. Upon returning, his career took another exciting turn. He began working for Nicole Miller's Bridal Fashion Show, leading to a five-year tenure as her exclusive Hair and Makeup artist in Philadelphia.

This venture sparked the entrepreneurial flame in Tavares, leading him to establish his own Bridal Company. Over time, he styled over 200 weddings, including the high-profile Anisimova wedding at the Waldorf Astoria. During this time, Tavares decided to leave salons and launch his brand, JTAVAR.

"I saw an opportunity to make a unique impact in the industry and knew that starting my own brand was the next step," Tavares recalls. His brand quickly made waves, and he worked with major TV networks, including VH1, BET, MTV, E!, Bravo, OWN, TV One, and We.

Today, Tavares is a top-tier stylist known for his specialty in black and Afro-Latina hair. He has worked with esteemed individuals like Tina Knowles, Cookie Johnson, Holly Robinson Peete, Princess Love, Cynthia Bailey, AJ Johnson, Blac Chyna, Delicious, and Shenelle Jones.

As a trailblazer in the industry, Tavares’ influence extends beyond the salon. His dedication to inclusivity, passion for education, and commitment to quality sets him apart.
