MARTINEZ, CA (December 20, 2023) - One 5-year-old child died Sunday morning in a single-vehicle DUI collision on westbound State Route 4.
Emergency responders were dispatched just west of Morello Avenue at approximately midnight on December 17th. According to investigators, the operator of a gray Honda CR-V deviated from the road and collided with a tree.
Paramedics promptly arrived, transporting both the driver and an 11-year-old passenger to a nearby hospital. Despite the life-saving efforts of medical personnel, a 5-year-old occupant who was not properly restrained succumbed to injuries at the accident site.
Upon completion of preliminary tasks, law enforcement arrested the driver on charges of DUI and manslaughter. A thorough investigation is currently underway, and additional details will be provided as they become available.
