Sunset Deck at Cabra
On Monday, June 19, III Mas BBQ and Big Noise will pop up at Tabula Rasa on Hollywood Boulevard, with ice-cold beer and dishes featuring falafels, a crispy sphinx sandwich with grandma's falafel in Aish Baladi (pita) with pickled eggplant, tahini and cilantro and six-piece grandma's falafel served with tahini sauce and amba, all to be paired with Big Noise Signature Lager.“Cambodian Cowboy Chef Chad Phuong, owner of Battambong BBQ in Long Beach, will pop up at the 2023 Los Angeles Design Festival for a Design for the People Dinner on Saturday, June 24. Hosted at ROW DTLA by asi asi projects, a creative agency that owns and operates a Los Angeles social house and supper club, the design-centric dinner will feature a four-course menu that includes a 17-hour smoked brisket or grilled mushrooms, Cambodian twako, Cambodian coconut corn, garlicky noodles, honey glazed carrots, and dessert by Craig’s vegan ice cream, as well as wine pairings. Lemon Poppy Kitchen chef and co-owner Anca Caliman (formerly of Parsnip) has teamed up with Eden Batki (formerly of Elf Cafe and Dune Kitchen) to create their new Sour Cherry pop-up. After a recent culinary expedition to Transylvania, the duo was inspired to team up and showcase a five-course prix fixe menu paying homage to their Romanian (Caliman) and Hungarian (Batki) roots. Expect a sour cherry spritz accompanied by a Transylvanian super spread of sardine butter, chicken liver juniper pate, smoked pork loin, beans with sunflower oil, körözött (paprika sheep cheese), caşcaval, plachinta with cabbage and dill, rosehip jam, caraway whey cheese buckwheat biscuits, traditional sour soup with borş (fermented barley), celery root, lovage, Varza a la Cluj (layers of spiced lamb and beef, smoked pork belly, rice, sauerkraut, fresh cabbage, and hazelnut cake with chocolate swiss buttercream, sour cherry jam and chocolate ganache for dessert. Netflix is unveiling NETFLIX BITES, its first-ever food experience from star chefs, including star chefs and mixologists. Opening on Friday, June 30, at 115 S. Fairfax Ave., the restaurant will be open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. On Saturdays and Sundays, it will offer a brunch menu from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Participating chefs include Curtis Stone (Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend), who will collaborate with other popular Netflix chefs including Dominique Crenn (Chef’s Table, Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend), Rodney Scott (Chef’s Table: BBQ), Ming Tsai (Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend), Ann Kim (Chef's Table: Pizza), Nadiya Hussain (Nadiya Bakes), Jacques Torres (Nailed It!) and Andrew Zimmern (Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend). The culinary legends will team up to create a special tasting menu. Mixologists from the network’s Drink Masters — including Frankie Solarik, Julie Reiner, LP O' Brien and Kate Gerwin — will craft custom cocktails for the drink menu. Cabra, chef Stephanie izard’s lively Peruvian inspired rooftop bar, will kick off summer with a new summer series on its Sunset Deck. Every Thursday, Cabra will host a rotation of DJs to spin, with Muzette to be the first one on deck and Xica Soul will appear throughout the summer, as well. The Sunset Deck also will have its own menu with three new large format drinks to share with four to six of your closest friends: Phoenix from the Ashes is a tequila- or mezcal-based cocktail with yuzu kosho, lime, and grapefruit soda, and the Pisco Punched Up is a tart punch made with pisco, pineapple, lemon, and tropical ginger beer. The Bird of Paradise Spritz is a rum-based drink with select aperitivo, aged rum, pineapple, cava, club soda. They also will offer a selection of beers, wine, and canned drinks along with some of Cabra’s signature snacks like hot chorizo queso dip with taro, plantain chips, and flatbread and beef empanadas with housemade dough.
