With over 2.6 billion monthly users, YouTube has become the number one social media platform. Over 51 million YouTube channels serve as an education, information, and or entertainment hub for billions globally. As a result, a YouTube career has become one of the lucrative, de facto paths for creatives, celebrities, or other personalities seeking to launch their careers. The success of top channels such as VanossGaming, PewDiePie, Ninja, and DashieGames are also an inspiration to other young creators pursuing glory in the same field.
Daelan Mangapit is one of the top and fast-rising mainstream YouTubers ascending to prominence. He is a uniquely-gifted creative and influencer taking over the content creator space. Unlike his competition, Daelan stands out as naturally nonchalant with a lax demeanor reflected in all his videos. “I think people gravitate to my videos because I’m being genuine and I’m not faking an overly enthusiastic personality for the camera,” he says.
According to Daelan, most gaming videos consist of either the YouTuber being overzealous or having frequent angry outbursts. However, his videos take a different approach. He is often unfazed and doesn’t take himself nor the game too seriously. For example, in his Apex Legends videos, he won’t be seen shouting at his teammates, making excuses, or yelling at his microphone if he gets eliminated. This unique style has since served as a breath of fresh air for content consumers to watch someone more mellow and laid back.
With over 100,000 Subscribers, Daelan believes that growing on YouTube was not an overnight success. He characterizes his YouTube journey as relatable, showing the importance of patience in the quest for success. Daelan established his YouTube channel in 2010 and often flipped between uploading gaming videos and vlogs of his day-to-day life. It was then in 2017 when he started playing the up-and-coming Korean MMORPG Black Desert Online where he would start to see his channel grow to over 30,000 subscribers. At that time, Daelan also began exploring the fashion genre providing clothing reviews and unboxing apparel from luxury brands like Supreme and Givenchy. He has since transitioned to uploading Apex Legends and Call of Duty content, helping grow his channel to over 100,000 subscribers.
The biggest challenge Daelan has faced was learning not to care what other people think. He began his YouTube career during his adolescent years, and like many, he was self-conscious and sensitive to what others thought of him. As a result, he avoided making content on certain topics or uploading specific videos because he was afraid of what the world might think of it.
Fortunately, Daelan overcame this challenge through maturity. “In social media, I realized that no matter what you do, people will have something to say about you regardless,” Daelan explains. “Some people will love you, some people will hate you, and that’s just the nature of this industry. So if people are going to talk regardless, you might as well just be yourself and upload whatever you want to upload.”
Daelan aspires to grow his YouTube channel to a million subscribers and hopefully have the gold plaque come his way. The ambitious influencer is also keen to once again branch out of the gaming niche and do social commentary videos and podcasts.
