Your career and dreams reach their endpoint. What do you do? Edward Davis thought he would be a football player, but when his football career ended he needed to make a decision. Instead of sitting back and going with the wind, he made a career for himself.

Edward Davis is CEO and founder of Checkmate Sports, and a licensed NFL Sports Agent. At Checkmate Sports, he provides several services to his clients to prepare them as professional athletes. From career and contract management to post-career counseling, Checkmate Sports does it all. Edward Davis wants athletes to have the best possible advantage at pro-days and strives to get them ready for the NFL draft. So far, Davis has helped get two athletes signed: one is playing for the New York Giants and another for the Indianapolis Colts.

Davis' success came quickly. He launched Checkmate Sports and had two players signed all in a year or two, but his success didn't come easy. He struggled to become an agent due to the difficulty of accessing resources and finding mentors. Agents seem to be closed off, operating from the old boys' network?. They are generally unaccepting of newbies trying to enter the field. This industry profits off of people's mistakes. Davis said. It's a highly competitive fieldso it makes sense, but Edward Davis is shifting the paradigm.

Davis wants to be the agent of agents, he said. He is on the fast track. He created a coaching and training website and has already launched it. Edward Davis doesn't wait for opportunities; he creates them for himself. Instead of being a victim, I decided to get back to work. Davis said. It's that mentality that propels him forward. It's what he said just when he gained two clients at the start of his new business venture and was knocked down due to COVID-19. He had spent over 50K preparing athletes for pro-day, but when pro-day was canceled, Davis had no options. He ended up creating the first-ever virtual pro-day and was back in the game. Since the creation of his site, he has helped 70 people get started in the sports agent industry.

Edward Davis' tenacity comes from his solid upbringing. He grew up in the historically-rich city of Stone Mountain, Georgia. He was afforded opportunities like getting a college education. He has a master's in sports administration. With that, he knew he could accomplish anything so he worked hard to create the career he wanted. Even though he has hit many walls in the sports industry, he continues to break them down and move forward. I went through it so you don't have to go through it, Davis said. He wants other agents to come to him to learn about the industry. Find someone that's doing what you want to do, and pay them whatever it costs to learn from them. Davis said.
