YUBA CITY, CA (October 19, 2023) - Early Thursday, a fatal collision on Highway 99 resulted in the death of Gurdial Singh.
At approximately 12:19 a.m., emergency services rushed to the scene near Sacramento
Avenue. According to reports, Jonathan Rodrigo Merin Quiorz, a 27-year-old, was driving his vehicle southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway. This led to a head-on collision between Quiorz's vehicle and a blue Honda Pilot, which was being driven by Mr. Singh.
Paramedics pronounced 63-year-old Singh, a resident of Yuba City, deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, Quiorz was airlifted to UC Davis Hospital with significant facial injuries, and a passenger in his vehicle, 25-year-old Macario Per, was transported to Adventist Health/Rideout Hospital in Marysville for medical attention.
In the aftermath of initial investigative procedures, officers took Quiorz into custody, charging him with felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
