
Angelica del Rocio Dios Jaramillo made her mark in the world of design with a journey that embodies resilience. Growing up across three different countries—Peru, the United States, and Mozambique—she faced unique challenges that shaped her into the hardworking top design strategist she is today.
Despite the odds being stacked against her, Ms. Dios Jaramillo pursued a creative career, moving to New York alone to achieve a creative degree. She defied expectations by securing a creative career, persevered through international challenges to remain in the United States, and even landed a new role in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Just when Ms. Dios Jaramillo decided to part ways with forceMAJEURE and return to Peru, the agency-modeled Combo reached out to her nine days before her scheduled flight. Finding that Combo’s culture and values resonated with her deeply, she changed course and went to work with Combo. The decision proved fruitful, with Combo equipping her with invaluable skills and entrusting her to oversee teams with the agency's founders.
Ms. Dios Jaramillo’s unique diaspora upbringing offers both interesting perspectives and challenges in her personal journey, while her career path also brought significant lessons. She had to grapple with important distinctions to become a thriving expert design strategist and project lead. Her career has helped her recognize the nuances of management versus leadership, learning which to apply in various career situations. Working with B2B clients has transformed her into a subject matter expert, understanding the ins and outs of industries with extensive research. Her work has given her the skill set to effectively conduct research report development, campaign production, and overseeing branding projects while communicating confidently.
Throughout her career, Ms. Dios Jaramillo has achieved several noteworthy milestones and has been recognized for her significant achievements. She participated in selective courses with brands during her time at Parsons SDS, including Panasonic, Hugo Boss, and Sesame Street. Her proudest moment was when the department funded the production of an interactive installation she designed protesting creative agencies’ role in creating Trump's border wall. One of her designs was even featured in Times Square on the Nasdaq building as part of AIGA's Design for Democracy collaboration with NYCxDESIGN and Design Pavilion.
Ms. Dios Jaramillo has worked with renowned conglomerates like Diageo, Unilever, L'Oreal, and Campari. She was pivotal in the packaging design and launch campaign of Ciroc's LTO flavors, among other projects. Her most cherished project at Combo involves a partnership with SOW, a talent development agency for young BIPOC creatives. She bridges the gap between Combo and the SOW team, ensuring a nurturing environment. Her co-facilitation of Combo's strategy masterclass in 2022 is a career highlight.
