Halloween lands on a Monday this year so this weekend is your biggest and best chance to get freaky for the haunted holiday. West Hollywood has canceled its annual Santa Monica Boulevard street closure and carnival, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of killer nights in the area. From Heart nightclub to The Abbey to The Artist's Tree, pretty much every bar, club and business in the area will offer fiendish frolic this weekend. In Hollywood the bigger clubs also boast the usual bounty of boo-gie nights. The Fonda (Alice Glass' Traumabond Tour), Avalon (Emo Nite, Gasolina), The Roosevelt, the Sunset Room, Bar Lis and Desert 5 Spot are all hosting some hot hullabaloos. Same goes for Downtown, where Elevate, The Continental Club has some clubby thrills. Have fun and don’t be a creep for real out there, kids. Despite its gloomy/scary aesthetics, Halloween, especially after the COVID lockdowns, is about celebrating life, creativity and human --or inhuman-- connections.
Demonic duo The Boulet Brothers, have become ubiquitous with Halloween nightlife, throwing one of the biggest parties of the year, and they top the list this year with two terrorific nights in Downtown.  The Boulet Brothers’ Halloween Ball aims to be an immersive experience, with three floors of entertainment including stage shows, dancing, a puppet theater, pumpkin carving, fortune tellers and carnival games. There will also be appearances by the likes of Trixie Mattel, Symone, Dahli and the cast of their just premiered reality competition Dragula: Titans on Shudder.  At the Globe Theater, 740 S. Broadway, Downtown; Fri.-Sat., Oct. 28-29. 
Club Underground remains one of our favorite dance floor funfests and their Masquerade Ball & Costume Party, "This Is Halloween" (named after the Nightmare Before Christmas anthem) promises to be a real monster mash. Post-Punk Dark Wave, Indie, Goth, New Wave, BritPop, 80s, 90s, 00-20s sounds on two floors with four DJs (Larry G., Liz O., Liuba and Malvada) plus a costume contest and more. When it comes to dark nightlife delights, Das Bunker and Release The Bats are the greatest ghouls in the game. Also dubbing their party "This Is Halloween" the fiends join forces Friday for an “old-fashioned big room Goth/Deathrock/Darkwave/Industrial/EBM dance party” promising state-of-the-art lights and sound. Costumes are encouraged but most will probably be wearing gothic finery from their closets. At Don Quixote, 2811 E. Olympic Blvd. ; Fri., Oct. 28.
Back in the late 2000s, Dim Mak, the indie label created by Steve Aoki, ruled Tuesday nights in Hollywood with big name DJs and music acts attracting a who’s who of hipster L.A. to Cinespace. The Mak is returning to its old stomping grounds for the first time in nine years (now housing The Bourbon Room) for Halloween with a bash called NoFun! and it’s sure to be a hedonistic haunt. The NoFun! collective leads the line-up with Garrett Gloom, Levi Evans, Dave Coresh, Zoodevile, Mother Wata, Huebline, Louie Lambo, WADE08, Swann + Special Guests Ohno, Tatiana Hazel, Cody Benjamin, Dezzie Gee, Devilgod, MatrixUnni, FTHR FGR, and Alex Carapeti. 6356 Hollywood Blvd.
