L.A. Metro Offering Unlimited Free Rides On Election Day
November 7, 2022
Los Angeles Metro announced it would be offering Angelenos unlimited free rides on Tuesday for Election Day. The free rides will apply to all Metro buses, trains, Bike Share and Metro Micro services, from 12 a.m. Tuesday morning, until 11:59 p.m. that night. In 2019, L.A. Metro introduced an effort to permanently offer free rides on federal and state election days, regardless if riders are headed to polling places or not. "By offering free rides on Election Day, Metro is doing its part to encourage voter turnout and make it easier for people to travel to and from local polling places," Metro said in a media release. While there are no restrictions for riders, in order to specifically activate rides on the "Bike Share" and "Metro Micro" services, codes will be required. For riders using "Metro Micro," which is Metro's response to an Uber-style rideshare system, code "vote2022," will activate the free rides on the Metro Micro app or website.
Riders trying to take advantage of Metro's Bike Share, will have to input code 110822 when renting a 1-day ride through the Bike Share app, website, or kiosk. The code is valid for multiple rides throughout the day, however, will be limited to 30 continuous minutes for free, with a $1.75 fee for every 30 continuous minutes after the first 30 minutes.
