The real estate in the Los Angeles area is just too valuable to allow vacant and shuttered properties to sit vacant and shuttered for too long. Three locations we wanted to include on this list have been demolished or totally redeveloped within the past year. However, if you look closely as you travel around L.A., there are still some shuttered properties to be found that have made appearances in some of our favorite L.A. films.
The Tiki Motel, where Sarah Conner conceived the future leader of the battle against the machines in
The Terminator, sat in shambles in Huntington Park for a number of years but recently was turned into a brand new apartment complex. Sadly, the abandoned truck-stop diner where Pee-wee Herman was dropped off by Large Marge in
Pee-wee's Big Adventure was
completely demolished this past December. The boarded-up Woodland Hills home of the fortuneteller from
Phantasm was built in 1937 and leveled not long ago to make way for a new home.
