Man Pronounced Dead after Hit-and-Run Bicycle Collision near Sylvan Avenue

MODESTO, CA (November 30, 2023) - Early Tuesday evening, one man was fatally struck in a hit-and-run bicycle crash on McHenry Avenue and Sylvan Avenue.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., near East Union Avenue.

Officers say a bicyclist was hit by the driver of a southbound light-colored Kia Soul while crossing McHenry Avenue. Following the incident, the Kia driver fled without providing assistance to the injured victim. Emergency medical responders transported the bicyclist to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away due to his injuries.

The identity of the deceased victim is currently undisclosed. Authorities are actively searching for the Kia Soul, which may have front windshield and passenger side damages. An ongoing investigation is in progress.
