Man In Critical Condition After Jumping Into Lake At Magic Johnson Park

A man is in critical condition after jumping into the lake at Magic Johnson Park in Willowbrook.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a call that the man jumped into and had not come out.

"Units are on scene at Magic Johnson Park for reports of one adult jumping into the lake who has not emerged from the water," the fire department said in an update. "Dive team is en route for search operations."

Crews found the man and transported him to a nearby hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition.

Additional details were not made immediately available.

The 104-acre park and recreation center was named after Johnson, the former Lakers star, in 1993. In 2020 the park underwent $83 million in renovations, adding a new community center, a loop trail with picnic spaces, and a children's play area with a splash pad.

The lakes are often used for fishing activities and a surrounding walking path.
