Movie Pick: Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements
Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements is a stirring memoir about a deaf boy who comes to terms with his disability while pursuing his calling as a concert pianist. Finding solidarity with both Ludwig van Beethoven and his own deaf grandfather, he triumphs over the adverse effects of the illness in pursuit of the sublime. Irene Taylor Brodsky directed this generously humane mosaic of emotion. Laemmle Royal, 11523 Santa Monica Blvd., Sawtelle, Fri., Sept. 20, various showtimes; $9-$13. (310) 478-3836, laemmle.com.
