Onyx for the Whisky
November 28, 2023
Onyx for the Whisky: Queens hardcore hip-hop group often perform at the Whisky when they hit L.A., which is cool but not the standard rap venue. No matter — Onyx have been around since 1988, and putting out albums since 1993’s Bacdafucup. The latest is this year’s Blood on da X. “The bad boys of ’90s hip hop return with a vicious new studio album of real deal street rap,” says label Cleopatra Record. Sounds about right. Blaxmyth, iLLijah Moon, D.I.O., Lyrics, T Rich$ and Morgainz also play.
According to their Wiki bio, "They are best known for their 1993 platinum hit single 'Slam,' which The Source magazine described as a song that introduced the art of slam dancing into hip-hop. The group has released eight studio albums, three of which have charted in the Billboard 200 albums chart Top 25. Their debut album, Bacdafucup, has been certified platinum, won Best Rap Album at the Soul Train Music Awards and was selected as one of The Source magazine's 100 Best Rap Albums."
Onyx for the Whisky: The event takes place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 30 at the Whisky.
