SAN DIEGO, CA (October 11, 2023) - In the early hours of Thursday, a fatal DUI crash unfolded on Interstate 5 in downtown San Diego, resulting in the tragic death of a woman.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-5, close to the vicinity just north of State Route 54 in National City.
As reported by the CHP, the collision involved three vehicles: a Nissan Frontier, a Honda Accord, and a Jeep Liberty. Following the collision, the driver of the Nissan reportedly fled the scene on foot.
Furthermore, a Jeep Patriot collided with the immobilized Accord, leading to the ejection of a female passenger from the Patriot.
Medical responders transported the female passenger and the male driver to a hospital where the woman succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, police arrested the 37-year-old man from Imperial Beach driving the Patriot for suspected DUI.
No other injuries were reported from the incident.
At this time, the identity of the deceased female passenger remains undisclosed to the public, pending notification from the next of kin.
