ScHoolboy Q to Headline Puffcon 2022

ScHoolboy Q will headline the hashiest block party in Los Angeles at the second annual installment of Puffcon on Oct. 1.

At last year's inaugural installment of Puffcon, the community was fiending for a good time after a year-and-a-half of varying levels of lockdown. Flatbush Zombies and Action Bronson headlined a lineup of glass art and cannabis all-stars that delivered for the party-starved local hash scene.

With the world even more open, this year is expected to be more rowdy fun than the initial installment. Acts scheduled to join ScHoolboy Q include Ryan Celcius, Peach and Chay, Kittamami and Kirk Summers. Another sure to excite the crowd is Eshu Tune, the rapping alter ego of Hannibal Buress.

Puffco has been at the spear tip of hash culture since its founding in 2013. If the headiest hash connoisseurs in the world aren't dabbing off of quartz, most of the time you'll find them using something from the Puffco lineup. We here at L.A. Weekly have judged the last three Emerald Cups with a Peak and then Peak Pro.

By the time Puffco launched Puffcon last year, they were already firmly intertwined with the hash community. When they said it was free general admission for anyone who owned a Peak (this year a Proxy will get you in, too), it was a no-brainer that anyone who loved hash would want to be there. And they came, 3,500 people raged downtown, as the block party also marked the debut of the Peak Pro's 3D chamber. width=1213

Puffcon Planning 2022

Planning has been a bit easier this time around for? Puffco's Director of Events Kevin Chapman.

I mean, without such a big variable as a global pandemic. It's been a bit easier to breathe while planning. And not having to plan for something that you really can't. That would be any kind of mandate of masks, vaccination for big events, or county rulings, anything like that.

Chapman went on to note the Puffco team is expecting the event to hit the 5000 capacity with RSVPs already at almost 3000.

In addition to the consumer appreciation aspect, Puffcon serves as a hometown party for a company that spends much of the year on the road.

We spend nine months out of the year traveling and presenting ourselves to the world, having their excitement come up to the booth and letting them try the product, Chapman said, So to invite them to our backyard and really throw a party on their behalf is special for us. It's cool to be able to curate it based off of everything else we've seen in the space, and really what works and dial those all in for Puffcon.

Shakedown Street

Attendees this year can expect similar hype levels to last year regarding exclusive merch drops from some of the biggest names in cannabis and art. A big part of the event is Puffco's homage to The Shakedown Streets of Grateful Dead show parking lots as they toured across America over the decades. Those parking lots themselves also are intertwined with cannabis history ? just ask Chemdog.

While the Shakedown Streets of Dead Tour featured grilled cheeses and acid of varying qualities and quantities, Puffco's version will host the likes of Talking Terps, Alien Labs, Trevy Metal, Elbo, Fidel's, Pyroscopic, Trichadelics, Allmyhatsaredead, Mid City Signs, Trove SF, Trapis Designs, Bubbasface, Mike Gracie, Lot Comedy, Edistsew, Contrabando, Feeling Frosty, Variegated Troy, Cactus Quest, Level Heady, The Astor Club, Alexxis Burroughs, Empire Glassworks, Midnight Special, CIvInd Airbrush, Pro Swabs, 4 My Head, HAT Garden co, and Big Country Collection.

Puffco's popular glass art contest also will see a big expansion this year with the addition of the Proxy and Cupsy to the Puffco lineup, after taking a break through the pandemic. Glassblowers will compete for top honors for Puffco Peak, Peak Pro, Proxy and Cupsy attachments. The winners will be announced during the party.

Anyone who owns either a Peak model or Proxy can register to attend on Puffco.com. On the day of the party, they must have a fully-assembled Puffco product at the gate and a government-issued identification proving they're over the age of 21.

There will not be any cannabis sales on-site, so make sure to bring your own heat for the festivities.
