New to the game, Ken Anthony’s rap songs are both raw and purposeful. ‘Emotions’ is a perfect example of this.

If first singles are anything to go by, Maryland-born rapper Ken Anthony is about to make a big impression on the music scene.

The artist, born in the city of Gaithersburg but now based in Virginia, has shared two singles, which reveal him to be an exciting, lyrically incisive artist.

Ken’s new release, ‘Emotions,’ sees the artist bracingly tackle themes of how loneliness, boredom, drug usage, nihilism, and uncertainty about your place in the world can sometimes spill over into suicidal thoughts.

Ken shows he’s well equipped to tackle these subjects competently if it's heavy subject matter. Lyrically, the rapper is frighteningly graphic as he talks through the exact methods that might lead him to end his own life. “Where my gun, I feel so numb I need my clip, no magazine I am ready to aim”, he raps, adding, “I’m gonna grab that fucking knife, slit my wrists.”

But…even as he goes in deep with lyrics about feeling suicidal, there’s a gritty maturity in how he can even vocalize these emotions. He sounds composed and brave in the face of pain. Much like rappers such as Eminem and Juice WRLD - two of Ken’s biggest inspirations - he sounds like someone who has been through it all and is now ready to talk about it while on the road to recovery.
