While we await the presidential election results (which are likely to take a while due to legal challenges), here in California, we all considered ourselves pretty darn lucky that our Governor made it so easy with mail-in ballots and numerous drop boxes in every city. As a result, those who voted in person didn't have to deal with the long lines we saw in so many states the past few days. To make it kind of fun for those those who waited to cast in-person, L.A. voting places included landmarks we've all missed going to like Dodger's Stadium, The Hollywood Bowl and The Pantages (which gave out special Hamilton themed "I Voted" stickers).
There was no doubt that California would go blue, so it was the regional ballot bouts that had us anxiously awaiting results. At the time of this post, it looks like Prop 15 (property tax reform) appears to have been defeated, as has Prop 21 (the rent control measure). The hotly debated Prop 22 (limiting labor laws for drivers and backed by Uber and Lyft) has seemingly passed, while L.A. County Measure J (which seeks to "reimagine" and reform the criminal system) is on board to pass as well. (See our News section for most
current updates).
As with our
Masked slideshow series, we put the call out for readers to show us their "I Voted" stickers yesterday and got some fun stuff (many pics with masks too) from Angelenos at home, at polling places, with pets and kids, and more. California had record turnout and no matter what happens with the presidency, anyone who made their voice heard this election should be very proud. These images convey that pride.
