As the old
Staples Center branding is slowly being phased out in favor of the new Crypto.com Arena, the building's letters were seen being torn down, Monday.
Work crews were seen slowly taking down the letters around the arena overnight Sunday and into Monday morning.
The Staples Center social media accounts, as well as website have all been turned over to Crypto.com, and a more visible makeover is expected to be unveiled by the time the Los Angeles Lakers play their Christmas Day game against the Brooklyn Nets.
How much of the signage will be replaced by them is still unknown, but Crypto.com and AEG said the complete turnover is expected to come before June of 2022.
Crypto.com bought the naming rights in a partnership with AEG, with the surrounding L.A. Live area, Microsoft theater and Novo being part of agreement.
Known as the Creative Capital of the World, the city of Los Angeles and the people who call it home have always been pioneers, pushing the boundaries and innovating as the undeniable global leaders of culture and entertainment, Crypto.com Co-Founder CEO Kris Marszalek said in a press release. We're very excited about partnering with AEG and investing long term in this city, starting with Crypto.com Arena in the heart of downtown, and using our platform in new and creative ways so that cryptocurrency can power the future of world class sports, entertainment and technology for fans in LA and around the world.
Home to the Lakers and Kings, this will be the arena's first name change since its inception in 1999.
