Tale of Us and Afterlife Roster Wow at LA Historic Park

Tale of Us and Afterlife Roster Wow at LA Historic Park: Afterlife, the melodic techno label founded by Italian duo Carmine Conte and Matteo Milleri, took over LA Historic Park last Friday Oct. 13th and Saturday Oct. 14th, delivering a lineup of stunning music and visual performances from their roster.
The mini festival was headlined both nights by Conte and Milleri’s act Tale of Us. Friday also featured Argy, Julya Karma, Kevin de Vries and MRAK — Conte’s solo act. Saturday’s lineup was Layla Benitez, Cassian (who brought the house down at The Vermont back in August), Adriatique and Milleri’s solo venture called Anyma.
The crowd was packed and ready to rave when we arrived Saturday, and included many international techno-die-hards, as well as local newcomers to the melodic scene.
Afterlife made good on their unique brand of intense, thumping, melodic music, with some of the best audio production in the business, save for a somewhat abrupt ending to the night — it appeared that there was a hard cutoff at 11 p.m.
Layla Benitez and Adriatique performed lighter, vibey-er sets, while Cassian, Anyma and Tale of Us delivered the moodier, shoulder-pumping goods.
You can’t talk about an Afterlife event without noting the visuals, which features their trademark upside-down floating man traveling various realms of space and time. He looked great, as production was top-notch, presented in an ultra resolution on a massive screen.

At one point, the man floated through a field of comets, which reminded of an actual meteor shower that occurred during an Afterlife set during Miami Music Week back in March.
We asked for some technical detail about the visual setup, but the team was mum, in order to create some mystery around the brand.
Tale of Us doesn’t perform much outside of Europe and Latin America. It was their Los Angeles debut and a rare U.S. appearance following their stunning Coachella performance earlier this year.
With three packed SoCal performances under their belt, the message is clear: we’re hungry for more. Editor's note: The disclaimer below refers to advertising posts and does not apply to this or any other editorial stories. LA Weekly editorial does not and will not sell content.
