These Aerial Photos of L.A. Reveal a Complicated, Beautiful Urban Landscape

In his new book, LA NY: Aerial Photographs of Los Angeles and New York (Thames & Hudson, $29.95), photographer Jeffrey Milstein offers an alternative view of America's two largest cities. Using a high-resolution camera and a stabilizing gyro, Milstein shot both cities from a helicopter positioned directly above what he wanted to capture. Out here on the West Coast, Milstein traveled from downtown to Long Beach and out to Anaheim to capture L.A.'s residential grids, tangled freeway interchanges and beautifully uniform seaports. Milstein's book is out today.
