Bad month for Uber drivers.
First, one was
shot in Venice. He was possibly the victim of gang crossfire. And this week an Uber driver was robbed in a bustling part of Hermosa Beach.
Cops say it happened about 1:20 a.m. yesterday in a Vons parking lot at 710 Pier Ave. when a driver was outside his car using his smartphone and was approached by a suspect.
The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded money and his smartphone, said Sgt.Robert Higgins of the Hermosa Beach Police Department. The victim complied, after which the suspect entered a nearby car and fled the area.
The Uber guy was brave: He followed that car, which carried two other suspects, to Lawndale, where he flagged down a Los Angeles Sheriff's deputy, police said.
The suspect vehicle was stopped and the suspects were arrested, Higgins said. A replica handgun and the victim's property was recovered from the suspect's vehicle.
The suspects were ID'd as 19-year-old Anthony Mateo, 19-year-old?Alexis Stewart and 18-year-old Dwaun Jennings, all of Los Angeles, and all jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail.
