Velvet Starlings get Jacked in Vegas: Christian Gisborne of psychedelic indie rockers Velvet Starlings told us about his Jack White experience.

Christian Gisborne: The best gig I ever saw was in Las Vegas (of all places) at the Cosmopolitan, which turned out to be an amazing venue. My plan was to see Jack White in a less crowded market. How many Jack White mega fans reside in Nevada after all?

As you might guess, my plan took a different turn. After I arrived five hours early, I was greeted with a massive lineup of Jack White worshippers waiting ahead of me with their $200 posters and Third Man paraphernalia. Olivia Jean opened the show (Jack White's wife as of two weeks ago), and following was William Tyler (who I just got tix to see opening for Ty Segall next month!) and then of course Jack.

He stormed onto the stage ripping Kick out the Jams? by MC5 and did a guitar flip which made everyone go crazy. He played an incredible 20+ song set full of Raconteurs, Dead Weather, White Stripes, solo stuff and all sorts of random riffs and covers in between. One particularly memorable moment was his first performance of Carolina Drama? in years, in which the crowd was so well-versed in his discography that they not only sang the lyrics of this behemoth of a song, but they also knew the counterpoints and harmonies as well as any hired session person.

The passion and quality of the audience really took the entire experience to another level especially for super fans like me.
