78-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Crash on Slide Road

LUBBOCK, TX (October 24, 2023) – A pedestrian collision took place on 98th Road Wednesday night, resulting in the fatality of Walter Wilkins on October 11th.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers arrived at the scene near Slide Road in response to the incident. According to initial reports, the collision occurred as a passenger van was traveling in an eastward direction and collided with a pedestrian who was crossing from the south side of the road.

On-site medics later pronounced the male pedestrian dead, due to the extent of his injuries. The victim was later identified by authorities as 78-year-old Wilkins.

Currently, an active investigation is underway to determine the events leading up to the incident.
