Woman Killed, Two Others Hospitalized after Three-Vehicle Pile-up on Interstate 5 [Carlsbad, CA]

Driver Arrested after Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash near Cannon Road

CARLSBAD, CA (October 25, 2023) - Sunday night, a three-vehicle pileup on Interstate 5 left a woman dead and two others injured. 

CHP responded to reports of the crash around 9:57 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-5 near the Cannon Road exit. 

Based on an eyewitness account, a speeding gray pickup truck rear-ended a black sedan. The impact of the crash overturned both vehicles in the No. 2 lane and caused a Jeep to face the wrong way on the No. 4 lane. 

Responding emergency personnel transported three people from the black sedan to a hospital. Unfortunately, a woman among the three patients from the sedan succumbed to her injuries upon arrival.

According to ABC 10 News, another driver was taken to a hospital for injuries and was ultimately arrested for suspected DUI. 

At this time, the identities of those involved in the crash have not been made public. Carlsbad Officials will release additional information about the fatal three-vehicle pileup once available.
