Your Food Event PSA: Essentials 2014 Coming This Weekend

If you haven't started planning for this coming weekend's eating, it's not too late to do so. Which could mean scheduling a juice fast. Or rewiring your Sunday commitments. Or actually buying tickets if you've somehow forgotten that on Sunday, March 9, from noon to 5 p.m. this esteemed publication will be hosting its sixth annual food and wine event, LA Weekly's The Essentials.

44 of this town's most awesome restaurants will be coming to L.A. Mart in downtown L.A. to feed you, including Angelini Osteria, Bestia, Craft, Guerilla Tacos, Hinoki and the Bird, Kogi BBQ, Jitlada, Lucques, Night + Market, Sotto, Sqirl and, well, just go read the list.

Since this sounds like lots of FUN, as well as a good way to eat yourself silly, we should note that V.I.P. tickets have already sold out and general admission tickets are just about to, such that the price for them is now $50, up five bucks from what they were if you'd been super organized. Ah, well.

Relative to logistics, L.A. Mart is a large creative space on Broadway downtown, with showrooms for happy things like furniture and actual artists, and they also have space for events like this one. There are two large lots nearby where you can park for $10-$12, and there's also metered and street parking. Carpooling is recommended - or take the Blue Line ( L.A. Trade Tech Grand Station).

A reminder that Daylight Savings Time goes into effect this Sunday at 2 a.m., so remember to move your clocks ahead an hour. (Sorry! Yes, It's a stupid system: Go write your congressman or your farmer or whomever.)

Another reminder that this Sunday is also the L.A. Marathon, so plan accordingly. And maybe start running now, if only so you're in shape to eat this much food.
