HEMET, CA (December 10, 2024) – Derek Holt was killed Thursday night, in a DUI crash on Acacia Avenue.
Dispatchers received calls at approximately 8:00 p.m., near Kirby Street.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a westbound compact sedan collided with a stationary municipal truck on Acacia Street. The crash injured a Hemet Department of Public Works employee who was seated in the municipal vehicle at the time.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, the city worker was pronounced dead at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 40-year-old Holt of Hemet.
Following the collision, California Highway Patrol officers arrested the sedan’s driver on suspicion of felony DUI. The suspect was subsequently booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
