88-Year-Old Female Passenger Dies in Two-Vehicle Accident near 22nd Street

TUCSON, AZ (October 6, 2023) - Late Friday night, Dorothy Smith Weaver lost her life in a devastating head-on collision that occurred on East Old Spanish Trail.

Emergency crews arrived to the scene, which was situated in the 9200 block of East Old Spanish Trail near Harrison Road, on September 29th.

According to reports, a 21-year-old male driver behind the wheel of a Silver Mazda 3 was traveling westward when he swerved into the opposing lanes, resulting in a head-on collision with a Toyota Avalon.

The Toyota was being driven by a 70-year-old woman with Dorothy Weaver as a passenger. Due to the severity of her injuries, paramedics declared 88-year-old Weaver deceased at the scene.

Additionally, medical professionals transported the Toyota's driver, another passenger, and the young Mazda driver to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.

After initial investigations, law enforcement officers determined that the 21-year-old driver of the Mazda was under the influence of impairing substances. Currently, an active investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided once they become available.
