Rene Bucaro Fatally Struck in Reckless Collision on Balfour Road [Contra Costa County, CA]
62-Year-Old Security Guard Dies in Solo-Car Accident near Bixler Road
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (December 17, 2024) – Rene Bucaro died late Friday evening, in a reckless solo-car crash on Balfour and Bixler Road.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:56 p.m., on December 7th.
According to CHP officers, a 17-year-old male driving a newer model Hyundai Santa Cruz truck entered an intersection at a high rate of speed and crashed into a guard booth without slowing down.
The guard booth, occupied by Bucaro and another guard, offered little time for them to react or escape. The impact of the collision killed 62-year-old Bucaro, who was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.
Meanwhile, the second guard sustained severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital along with the teen driver for medical treatment.
After being discharged from the hospital, the teen was arrested and taken to Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall, where he faces a vehicular manslaughter charge.
Authorities noted that the teen driver held a provisional license, and alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash.
No further updates have been released, but additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
Deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Rene Bucaro.
