Storm evacuations in some foothill communities near the mud-swamp Station Fire burn area are becoming so common they almost have a rhythm. It's that time again: As two storms approach, with healthy rain forecast through the weekend, residents of 188 homes in La Crescenta and La Canada Flintridge were being told to take a hike.

Authorities hoped to have residents out by 4 p.m. Friday. The Red Cross has established an evacuation center at La Canada Presbyterian Church, 626 Foothill Blvd. Residents should bring pillows and blankets because it could be a long weekend, and county sheriff's officials say no one is going home until mud-flow-prone areas are deemed safe.

The evacuations affect 146 residences in La Canada Flintridge and 42 in La Crescenta, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. No parking in those neighborhoods will be allowed, either. (If you live in the area and need info, see this site).
