ALBUQUERQUE, NM (July 8, 2024) – Tiger Gutierrez died Saturday, and Jesus Sandoval-Martinez was arrested after a DWI crash on Coors Boulevard.
Dispatchers received calls near Montano Road Northwest on July 1st.
According to reports, 21-year-old Sandoval-Martinez was driving a grey Dodge Dakota pickup truck northbound on Coors Boulevard at a high speed. Officers stated that both a Tesla and a Toyota were traveling west on Montano Road at the same time.
The pickup truck then ran a stop sign at the intersection, colliding with the black Tesla and the Toyota Corolla.
After the crash, Sandoval-Martinez exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. However, witnesses followed him and led to his arrest at a nearby Walgreens.
Paramedics transported the Tesla driver, 22-year-old Gutierrez, and his passenger to UNM Hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, Gutierrez was later pronounced dead.
Additionally, the driver of the Corolla was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Sandoval-Martinez was booked into jail facing multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide (DWI), reckless driving, hit-and-run, and failure to obey traffic control devices.
