Some USC students were angry with the LAPD over its riot-gear response to a student party near campus over the weekend.

The end-of-the-school-year event appeared to be attended by African American students. Another party, across the street, did not meet with the same response, according to one report:

A white student who identified herself to CBS Los Angeles as Sarah Tither Kaplan told the station that she was at a party across the street from the one targeted by police and that officers did not react the same way. The assumption was that it was attended mostly by white students.

"The LAPD didn't stop our party at all," she said.

Witnesses said nearly 80 cops showed up to shut down the African American party at 1222 W. 23rd Street on Friday. Video, above, shows an LAPD skirmish line.

A witness told the Weekly about 100 students attended the party and that IDs were checked. Music was not loud and people behaved, she insisted.

The source said police have broken up four other parties this semester. She argued this was part of "racist and discriminatory policies and actions."

The LAPD told CBS Los Angeles that officers were responding to noise complaints and that cops arrested six people.

A protest against the action was scheduled today at the Tommy Trojan statue on campus.

Early this year USC announced it would lock up the school's grounds each night after four people were shot at a Halloween party on campus.
