The rock and roll world lost one of its most iconic voices as Tina Turner, 83, died in her Switzerland home.

The announcement was made through her official social media accounts Wednesday, with a message reading:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow.

"Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly."

Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock, took the music world by storm with her husband Ike Turner in the 1960s, when their single "A Fool in Love" debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs charts and No. 27 on the publication's Hot 100 List.



In 1976, Turner went solo, hitting her stride in 1983 with her No. 1 hit "What's Love Got To Do With It." The song became her most popular, earning her three Grammy awards and a Grammy show performance widely considered one of the best all-time.



While her cause of death has not been revealed, Turner suffered from multiple illnesses, as in 2016, she was diagnosed with intestinal cancer. Turner later experienced kidney failure, with one of her last social media posts coming on World Kidney day, March 14.

"If I had known how high blood pressure and kidney disease are connected, I would have been spared a lot of suffering," the post read.

She is survived by her husband Erwin Bach and two adopted sons.
